Looking for the best shampoo for washing my hair, I discovered that some women use rye flour instead of conventional shampoo. So I did online researches about using rye flour for washing hair, and many women say that they are happy with rye flour shampoo. So I decided to try rye flour for washing my hair.
Here is the most simple way to make rye flour shampoo:
- Rye flour
- Lukewarm water – amount depends upon flour
- one egg yoke (optional)
- Mix the flour with water and whisk the ingredients well, making sure that there are no lumps present.
- Wet your hair thoroughly, then apply the rye flour paste generously on your hair and scalp.
- Massage well, and wait for a few minutes
- Wash off with plenty of water
- Use black tea, green tea, or apple cider vinegar, as a conditioner
ADDITIONAL TIPS
Adjust the flour accordingly to your hair.
Example: for the shoulder-length hair, use 4 tablespoons of rye flour.
If you have thick and curly hair, user full-grain rye. If you have fine hair, use rye flour with a finer grind.
Now I say about my experience of washing my own hair with rye flour shampoo.
I used Bobs Red Mill organic whole grain dark rye flour, stone ground
I mixed 4 tablespoons of rye flour with lukewarm water (from the faucet) in a glass jar, making a consistency of shampoo similar to sour cream. You can use the water-flour mixture immediately, but some women say it is better if it stays for some time. I waited for 15 minutes, then I added to the rye flour shampoo, 1 egg yolk. After wetting my hair with water, I massaged the shampoo into my hair and scalp; I left the shampoo on my head for 3 minutes, then I rinsed my hair. Some women say it takes much water and is more difficult to wash out rye flour shampoo than conventional shampoo, but for me it was not a big problem. I found that you must rinse your hair thoroughly to wash out the rye flour shampoo, because later, I had some flakes falling out when I combed my hair. After rinsing my hair I used an infusion of black tea as a conditioner. Green tea also can be used.
Strain tea infusion before using it as a conditioner.
Why tea is good for hair?
Black tea
- Black tea is rich in vitamins B1, B2, B5, C, K, and A, which quickly normalize the secretion of sebum and improve the appearance of even the severely damaged hair.
- The concentrated tea brew contains a lot of tannin – which is a natural antiseptic that eliminates skin inflammation and kills microorganisms, including fungal ones which provoke dandruff.
- Essential oils of tea affect the work of the sebaceous glands, depending on their condition. They stimulate the production of sebum if the curls are too dry. If there is hyperfunction of the sebaceous glands (which cause the hair to become greasy in 1-2 days) tea reduces these skin secretions.
- Regular rinsing with black tea will help give your hair a beautiful natural brown or slightly reddish shade.
Green tea
- Green tea contains a lot of tannin and catechins. These powerful antioxidants are a lifesaver for irritated, dry skin, plagued by dandruff, dermatitis, and seborrhea. They quickly strengthen the hair follicles.
- Tannin also regulates skin secretions, solving the problem of excessive greasiness of curls.
- Green tea contains a complex of vitamins A, B, C, E, and F, which improve the blood circulation of the scalp, this stops hair loss and increases hair growth.
My hair, after washing with rye flour shampoo, was as clean as if I had used conventional shampoo, and looked good. I will use rye flour shampoo again for washing my hair.
